The (Good) Word: Weeks Of September 12th-24th

Earlier this month, I shared the very first installment of The (Good) Word with you - you can read more about why I started it here. In a nutshell? Just some good news that’s happening out in the world that makes me smile, plus maybe a reflection or two on a controversy that’s got people up in arms…a different, more positive, more empathetic perspective. We've got lots of good WANT words from these past couple weeks, from cancer-fighting license plates and body-image cereal campaigns to Menstrual Barbie and periods in space. Enjoy!

The (Good) Word, Weeks Of September 12-24th

Live in California? Your license plate can now help early detection of breast cancer. All funds go to Every Woman Counts, which gives free clinical breast exams and mammograms to California’s underserved women. How rad is that? via PinkPlate.org

Hilary Clinton and the tweet that rocked big pharma's price gauging. via Time, Twitter

Vanessa Williams finally got her apology from Miss America - and there was kindness all around. via The Cut

Melissa McCarthy is basically single-handedly doing away with the whole plus-sized vs. "non" plus-sized clothing separation with her new line. Because we should all be able to wear whatever styles we want. Just one more reason to love this woman. via Fast Company

Special K is changing its tactics - and its entire tune. Own it - boom! via YouTube

This new doll is teaching little girls about something important - her menstrual cycle. (I see a Call Your Girlfriend episode in the making here...) via HelloGiggles

Viola Davis! Viola Davis! Viola Davis! via The Guardian

What happens when you get your period in space? (Okay, so not news per se, but a fun little read...because what does happen up there?) via NPR
